Practical Learning

February 16, 2010

Today  I was one of the two groups engaged in different workshops on Day 2 of the FOEDA Conference.  My group worked with Hoda Osman and Deborah Porter on how to make better and more interactive news reports for the web. As a broadcast professional slowly learning about online media, I found it extremely useful and helped me understand other mediums besides my own.

The exercise on producing a video led by Hoda Osman  for web helped me learn the basics of shooting a video, as well understanding how difficult it can be to work in  team – difference of opinions, frustration and simply just walking away. Another interesting issue that came up was the idea of ‘finding a story.’ We looked outside the Bibliotheca for people who  would make an interesting story for the exercise.  The ideas generated by  the team ranged from contemporary Egyptian fashion to security at the Bibliotheca.

In the second part of the workshop, Deborah Porter took us through several tools that can help to liven up our web reports – making them more interactive and insightful than simple words and pictures.

As a wanna-be ‘popular’ blogger – I found the session extremely useful. I hope to apply these tools and techniques to my blog.

Happy Reading!
